Page Numbers
Add page numbers to PDF documents. Customize position, format, and starting number.
About This Tool
Page Numbers prints a number on the pages of a PDF, in one of six places: left, centre or right, at the top or at the bottom.
The number can be plain (1, 2, 3), a capital Roman numeral (I, II, III), "Page 1 of N", or a pattern of your own with {page} and {total}, with text before and after it. You choose the first number, the size, the colour and the distance from the edge. The first page can be left without a number, only the odd or only the even pages can be numbered, and odd and even pages can carry the number in different places. A preview shows where the number will sit.
All processing happens locally in your browser, ensuring your documents remain private.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I skip the first page?
Yes. Tick "Skip first page (cover page)": the first page gets no number and the second gets your start number. No other single page can be left out; numbering can only be limited to the odd or to the even pages.
What number formats are available?
Plain numbers (1, 2, 3), capital Roman numerals (I, II, III), "Page 1 of N", and a custom pattern in which {page} and {total} are replaced. There are no lower-case Roman numerals and no letters.
Can I add "Page X of Y" format?
Yes. Choose "Page 1 of N" under "Style", or write your own pattern with {page} and {total}. The total is the number the last page carries, so it follows the start number and a skipped first page.
