Background Color
Put one colour behind the content of every page of a PDF.
About This Tool
Background Color puts one colour behind the content of every page of a PDF, for example a light cream that is easier on the eyes than white.
Pick the colour or type its hex code. The colour is drawn under the text and pictures, so it shows wherever the page was empty. On scanned pages, and on pages that paint their own white background, it stays hidden behind that. Everything else in the document stays as it was: selectable text, links, bookmarks, comments and form fields.
All processing happens locally in your browser, ensuring your documents remain private.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the background cover existing content?
No. The colour is drawn behind the text and pictures, so a scanned page or a page with its own background hides it. Nothing is taken away: links, bookmarks, comments and form fields are all kept.
Can I use different colors for different pages?
Not in one pass, and not by running the tool twice: each pass colours every page, and the first colour hides the second. Split the file with Split PDF, colour each part, then join them with Merge PDF.
Can I remove an existing background?
No. This tool only adds a colour behind the page content; it cannot take out a background that is part of the page. Edit PDF cannot either: it only adds annotations.
