Posterize PDF
Print a PDF page as a poster: it is drawn over a grid of sheets at one scale, with an overlap for joining them. A4, Letter, Legal or A3. Runs in your browser.
About This Tool
Posterize PDF draws each page of a PDF over a grid of sheets, so that a large diagram, map or drawing can be printed on an ordinary printer and joined into a poster. Every sheet shows its own part of the same drawing at the same scale, so the sheets match where they meet.
You choose the number of rows and columns, from 1 to 10 each, and the paper: A4, Letter, Legal or A3. The size of the finished poster follows from those two choices; it cannot be typed in. "Overlap" is how much of the picture two neighbouring sheets both show, which gives you a strip to glue or to trim. "Fit" keeps the whole page on the poster and leaves bare paper round it where the shapes differ; "Fill" covers every sheet and can cut the edges of the page. A page stored on its side is stood upright first, and what is filled into a form, comments and stamps are drawn with it.
The picture reaches the edge of every sheet: no margin is left and no crop marks are drawn, so allow for the border your printer cannot print on. The result has one page for every sheet, in order across the top row first, and weighs about what the original does. All processing happens in your browser.
How to Use
Upload Your PDF
Drag and drop your large-format PDF or click to select.
Configure Tiles
Set "Rows" and "Columns" and choose the "Output Page Size". Give "Overlap" a few millimetres if the sheets are to be glued. Under "Pages", type the pages you want, or leave it empty for all: each page becomes a poster of its own. The numbered boxes show the order the sheets will come in.
Create and Download
Click "Posterize PDF". The page says how many sheets were made and at what size the page is drawn; click "Download" to save one PDF with a page for every sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
What overlap should I use?
Whatever your way of joining needs: 5 to 10 mm is usual for gluing. Two sheets side by side, or one above the other, both show a strip that wide, and every sheet is drawn at the same scale, so the picture lines up where they meet. With 0 the sheets meet edge to edge.
Can I add crop marks?
No. The tool draws no crop marks and leaves no margin: the picture reaches the edge of every sheet. Allow for the border your printer cannot print on, and print at actual size, not "fit to page", or the sheets will no longer match.
What paper sizes are supported?
A4, Letter, Legal and A3. A custom size cannot be entered. "Orientation" turns the sheet; on "Auto" it follows the shape of each page.
