Edit PDF
Write and draw on a PDF: text boxes, highlights, shapes, notes, stamps and signatures. The text already in the PDF cannot be changed.
About This Tool
Edit PDF opens your document in a viewer with an annotation toolbar. It adds things on top of the pages; it does not change the text or pictures that are already there.
Highlight, underline or strike out text, type in a text box, draw rectangles, circles, arrows, clouds and freehand lines, leave notes, and place a stamp, an image or a signature. A list at the side shows everything you have added. To get the result, click "Export" in the editor's toolbar and choose "PDF". There is no redaction here: a shape drawn over text covers it but leaves it in the file, so use Find and Redact for that. Links and form fields of the original are not kept in the exported file.
All editing happens locally in your browser, ensuring complete privacy for your sensitive documents.
How to Use
Upload Your PDF
Drag and drop your PDF file or click to select the document you want to edit. If what you add should carry your name, type it in "Your name" first.
Select Editing Tool
Choose a tool from the toolbar above the page: highlight, underline, strikeout, text, rectangle, circle, arrow, cloud, freehand, note, stamp or signature.
Make Your Edits
Select text to highlight, underline or strike it out; click or drag on the page with the other tools. Click what you added to change or delete it.
Export and Download
Click "Export" in the editor's toolbar and choose "PDF". The edited file is downloaded.
Use Cases
Document Review
Add comments, highlights, and markup to documents for collaborative review processes.
Form Completion
Write on a form that has no fillable fields: place text and a signature where they belong. A fillable form is better filled in with Form Filler, which fills the fields themselves.
Stamps and Signatures
Put a stamp on a page, or sign a letter with a signature you draw, type or upload as a picture.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I edit the original text in the PDF?
This tool focuses on adding annotations and new content. For editing existing text, you may need to use the original source document.
Are my edits permanent?
They are saved in the exported file as PDF annotations, so another PDF program can still move, change or delete them. This editor has no option to flatten them into the page.
Can I undo my changes?
Yes. "Undo" and "Redo" are in the top bar of the editor, and Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y do the same. To start again, click "Clear" and add the file again; your own file is never changed, only the downloaded copy.
Whose name is on what I add?
The one you type in "Your name" before you add the file. It is shown in the list of comments and saved in the PDF as the author of each comment, shape or stamp you add. If you type none, they are by "Unknown User". The name is not kept after you leave the page.
