DJVU to PDF

Convert a DjVu file to PDF in your browser. Each page becomes a JPEG picture; text cannot be selected or searched.

About This Tool

DJVU to PDF converts a DjVu file into a PDF. DjVu is a format made for scanned documents, especially ones that mix text, line drawings and photographs.

Every page of the DjVu file is turned into a JPEG picture and placed on a PDF page of the size the page was scanned at: a DjVu page says how many dots to the inch it has, and the tool goes by that. The result is not searchable: text is part of the picture, and the text layer and bookmarks that some DjVu files carry are not copied. "Resolution of the pictures" starts at "As in the file", which keeps every dot of the scan. Choose 300, 150 or 72 DPI to give the pictures fewer dots and so make the PDF smaller; the pages stay the same size on paper, and a picture is never enlarged, so a value above the file's own changes nothing. The PDF is usually much larger than the DjVu file.

All conversion happens in your browser; the file is not uploaded. A progress bar shows which page is being converted, and the page may be slow to respond while a large file is worked on. If a page cannot be drawn, the others are still converted and the tool says which ones are missing.

How to Use

  1. Upload DJVU File

Drag and drop your .djvu or .djv file, or click to select from your device.

  2. Configure Options

Under "Conversion Options", leave "Resolution of the pictures" at "As in the file" to keep the scan as it is, or choose 300, 150 or 72 DPI for a smaller PDF. Choose an "Image Quality" from 70% to 100% for the JPEG pictures.

  3. Convert & Download

Click "Convert to PDF". A progress bar shows while the pages are converted; when the "Download" button appears, click it to save the PDF.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is DJVU format?

DjVu is a file format designed for storing scanned documents, especially those with text, drawings, and images. It offers better compression than PDF for scanned content.

Which resolution should I choose?

"As in the file", unless the PDF comes out too large. A lower resolution gives each page fewer dots, which makes the file smaller and small print less sharp: 150 DPI is usually enough for reading on a screen, 300 DPI for printing. The size of the pages on paper does not change, and choosing more than the file has does nothing.

Will the text be searchable?

No. Each page is a picture, and the text layer some DjVu files contain is not copied. To make the PDF searchable, run it through OCR PDF afterwards.
