Compress PDF
Make PDF files smaller and see exactly how much was saved. Free PDF compressor that runs in your browser.
About This Tool
Compress PDF makes your PDF files smaller so they are easier to email, upload and store, and tells you exactly how much each file shrank.
You choose how small the file should be. Smallest, Balanced and High quality reduce the resolution of images to 72, 150 or 300 dpi; text and line drawings stay sharp. Lossless reorganises the file without changing how anything looks.
All compression happens in your browser, so your documents never leave your device.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much can I reduce the file size?
It depends on what is in the file. Scans and photo-heavy PDFs often shrink by half or more. PDFs that are mostly text have little to remove and may only shrink a little. When a file cannot be made smaller, the tool says so and leaves it unchanged.
Will compression affect text quality?
No. Text and line drawings are not resampled at any level. Only images are reduced, unless you choose "Turn every page into a picture" under Advanced options.
What happens to fillable forms?
A PDF with form fields is compressed without redrawing it, so the fields keep working. That saves less than the image levels would.
Can it remove the title, author and other document properties?
Yes. Under Advanced options, tick "Remove the title, author and other document properties". The file you download then has no title, author, subject, keywords, dates or program names, and no XMP packet repeating them. If the file cannot be made smaller, you are offered your own file without those properties, named with "_no_metadata". Names and dates written on the pages or in comments are not removed.
Can I compress multiple PDFs at once?
Yes, up to 10 files at a time.
Can I stop a compression?
Yes. "Cancel" stops the work immediately and you can start again with another setting. With "Turn every page into a picture" it takes effect only when the file being redrawn is finished.
