PDF to BMP

Turn PDF pages into BMP pictures: uncompressed 24-bit files, one for each page.

About This Tool

PDF to BMP draws each page of a PDF as a picture and saves it with the .bmp extension. You choose the pages and the resolution: 72, 144, 216 or 288 DPI.

The file is a true, uncompressed 24-bit BMP in every browser, written by the tool itself. Uncompressed means large: an A4 page at 144 DPI takes about 6 MB. If all you need is a lossless picture, PDF to PNG gives the same pixels in a far smaller file.

All conversion happens in your browser; the PDF is not uploaded.

How to Use

  1. Upload Your PDF

Drag and drop your PDF file or click to select.

  2. Select Pages

Once the file is added, choose a "Resolution" under "Conversion Options" and type the pages in "Page Range", for example 1-3, 5, 7, or leave the range empty to convert every page.

  3. Convert and Download

Click "Convert to Images". A single page gives a "Download" button; several pages give "Download All as ZIP".

Use Cases

Legacy Systems

For software that reads only BMP, each page becomes a file it can open.

Windows Applications

Windows programs that expect .bmp files get real 24-bit BMP files.

Uncompressed Archives

Each page is stored uncompressed, about 6 MB for an A4 page at 144 DPI; several pages are packed into a ZIP.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use BMP format?

BMP offers uncompressed quality and maximum compatibility with legacy systems.

Are BMP files larger?

Yes. A BMP is not compressed: an A4 page at 144 DPI takes about 6 MB, many times the size of the same page as JPG or PNG.

What color depths are supported?

There is no colour-depth setting: the files are 24-bit, the kind that every program which reads BMP accepts.
